About the Job

Position Summary:  The optician is under the guidance of the manger of the Optical Shop and is responsible for sales , service and manufacturing of eyewear.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. The Optician’s primary function is to service patients by providing the finest optical products available.
  1. Provides consultation to patients on selecting the proper frame needed for their prescription.
  1. Educates and guides the patient through the lenses selection process. Explains the availability of different products and how each product will change the finished pair of eyeglasses.
  1. Analyze all jobs and correctly order the products needed as soon as possible.
  1. Check all incoming inventories and match the products to the patient’s orders.
  1. Manufacture the eyeglasses to meet the patient’s selection and the doctor’s prescription.
  1. The optician will maintain and clean all equipment used in the manufacturing of eyeglasses.
  1. Dispense the eyeglasses to the patient, insuring the proper frame fit and patient satisfaction.
  1. The optician will follow the instructions of the Optical Shop Manager and neatly fill out all forms and records required in the every –day business in the optical shop.
  1. The Optician will  prepare the daily business report and submit a deposit to the Cashier’s Department.
  1. Maintains strict adherence to the Lahey Clinic Confidentiality policy.
  1. Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals  into daily activities. 
  1. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
  1. Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
  1. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  1. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  1. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
  1. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  1. Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  1. Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  High school or equivalent;; basic office procedures and demonstrated interpersonal communication and organizational skills, or equivalent education and experience.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  Massachusetts Optician license required.  

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: The skill of being able to manufacture eyeglasses with all types of corrective lenses, single vision, aphakic , bifocals and progressive lenses and verify exactness upon completion.

Experience:     Three years of related experience in a high volume retail Optical Shop required.
