About the Job

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and working semi-independently within established protocols and guidelines, the Research Tech I performs laboratory experiments with a primary focus on biomarker discovery. The scope of this role includes participation in research study design, method development, troubleshooting technical issues in the lab, training of laboratory staff, and implementation of new laboratory techniques. Works under close supervision and assists in solving routine problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

a) Perform a variety of cell and molecular biology laboratory experiments

1.) Cell line maintenance and cell based assays

2.) RNA/DNA isolation and qRT-PCR

3.) SDS-PAGE and Western blot analysis

4.) Immunohistochemistry

b) Works under close supervision and assists in solving routine problems.

c) Routinely tracking and documenting results in laboratory notebooks and databases. Generate data and record results, organize and collate data (Microsoft Excel).

d) Train student interns and medical residents, on laboratory techniques, on a routine basis

e) Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment

f) Comply with all safety and infection control standards

g) Centrifuge blood and prepare specimens in a timely manner.

h) Collects patient specimens

i) Perform Laboratory housekeeping, handle hazardous waste and maintain laboratory inventory.

j) Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environment and infection control standards.

k) Abstracts data from the medical record (Epic)

l) Processes specimens for analysis according to written protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in biology or related field preferred

Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Not required

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

· Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments and equipment, computers (databases, spreadsheets, statistics) and scientific procedures.

· Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

· Basic familiarity with laboratory laser safety not required but will be considered favorably

· Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided.

· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.

· Good facility with spoken English to follow basic safety instructions and directions from supervisors and communicate effectively with others.

· Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services.

Experience: At least 1-year related work experience required (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
