About the Job

In partnership with the Chief Financial Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care (BILHPC):
  • Participates and supports strategic planning in concert with BILHPC goals that contribute toward market growth, revenue enhancement, cost containment and maximizing productivity
  • Establishes an integrated financial plan of operation (short and long term) compatible with BILHPC objectives and enterprise wide objectives.
  • Is responsible for the development and management of the annual operating plan and capital plan for BILHPC.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1) Lead individual responsible for all budgeting and forecasting needs of BILHPC.
2) Reviews, interprets, analyzes and communicates financial reports and data related to BILHPC system activity with the CFO of BILHPC, Senior BILHPC Leadership, physician leadership and administrative management.
3) Oversee and coordinate the integration of BILH Primary Care’s legacy financial systems into one consolidated platform
4) Analyzes capital and business plan requests, reviews the financial impact of these requests, including, but not limited to, internal rate of return, net revenue impact, etc.
5) Actively participates in BILHPC leadership meetings, presenting and providing financial insights to clinical issues.
6) Manages, evaluates and coordinates those employees who support BILHPC Financial Operations. Responsible for hiring, mentorship, professional development, determining functions and annual evaluations of staff members.
7) Evaluates BILHPC’s financial objectives of its planned and existing programs as they relate to third party reimbursement.
8) Oversees provider compensation, calculations, contract management, plan adjustments and negotiations
9) In partnership with the CFO of BILHPC, negotiates with outside groups contracting for healthcare services and or products.
10) Represents the Finance division as a member of the revenue cycle team within the service line, coordinating and evaluating efforts in budgetary and business planning activities.
11) Interfaces with the Decision Support Services (DSS) department in the development of departmental cost standards.
12) Actively utilizes the DSS system in the evaluation of clinical service line profitability analysis.
13) Interacts with Patient Financial Services and General Accounting departments to develop processes to ensure revenue is accurately posted to appropriate clinical department, cash collections are maximized and the departmental expenses are accurately posted to the general ledger. The responsibilities are to be performed in support of the clinical departmental manager.
14) Keeps abreast of the Commission for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations influencing fiscal management of the healthcare organization. Ensures compliance with orders or directives issued by government and regulatory agencies or third party payors, covering such topics as finance, billing, coding etc.
15) Work closely with Hospital Presidents and CFO's to support the primary care needs of each Hosptial service area

16) Incorporates Beth Israel Lahey Health Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Healthcare Management
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
  • MBA and /or CPA preferred but not required
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Excellent analytical skills. Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong proven leadership, project management, and execution skills
  • Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated change agent, self-starter and team player
  • Able to work independently and handle multiple priorities
  • Capable of leading the charge (sometimes from behind) and thinking "out of the box". Comfortable challenging the status quo while able to work diplomatically to keep stakeholders engaged
  • Able to persuade others and gain commitment
  • Understands context of assignments and tasks and able to be flexible and adaptable to changing roles & priorities
In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
  • Five to ten years of progressively increasing experience in healthcare finance.
  • Direct knowledge in practice re-engineering, cost accounting or financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies.
  • Direct experience in developing a complete business plan.
