About the Job

The Benefits Implementation Lead is responsible for partnering with the BILH entities, other HCM leads, other domain teams (Financials, Supply Chain Management, IT, Change Management) and Workday’s project teams through each of the stages, plan, architect, configure and prototype, test, deploy, stabilization, and post production, to implement the Workday solution focusing on Benefits. Responsibilities include gathering requirements and all functional and technical decisions for that work stream.

The lead will be responsible for learning to configure their workstream by participating in in knowledge transfer from the Workday Work Stream Lead to ensure self-sufficiency to support issue resolution by the start of User Acceptance Testing. Responsibilities also include establishing test scenarios and ensuring timely execution of testing, validating results, reporting on progress, assisting in resolving discrepancies, and working with the Testing Lead.

The Benefits workstream includes managing benefits setup and enrollment; open enrollment and benefits administration; administer savings and spending accounts; administering COBRA; administering Affordable Care Act; managing retirement plans; managing dependents, beneficiaries and evidence of insurability; managing benefit program effectiveness and vendor management, etc.

The lead is responsible for identifying and partnering with subject matter experts throughout BILH to ensure that project deliverables for their work stream are completed in a timely and successful manner. This individual will identify and escalate issues related to deliverables, scope and timeline to the HCM Solution Architect/overall project team.

The lead will work closely with the conversion team and assist in conversion activities and validating data after every conversion load. The role also involves working with the integration, reporting, and security teams in the setup, design, development, testing, and validation of data and end results. This includes working with all vendors and stakeholders through all stages of the implementation and post implementation.

The lead will be also be responsible for identifying and contributing to relevant policy changes related to the implementation of the Benefits product in Workday and assisting with overall process harmonization based upon Senior Leadership direction. This role will assist in training efforts and support the creation of job aids and materials.

The lead will be responsible for supporting change management efforts, such as working with the Project Change Manager/Lead to review/validate functional change impacts, communications, messages and training materials for accuracy per the future-state system configuration. The lead will assist in change readiness activities and working with BILH entities to improve the employee experience and strengthen user adoption.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. Provide subject matter expertise to aid in decision making related to the Workday Benefits solution.

  2. Serve as an escalation point for critical Benefits issue resolution via the HCM Solution Architect.

  3. Gather requirements and drive all functional and technical decisions for Benefits work stream.

  4. Partner with Workday counterpart to architect Workday Benefits solution to ensure that all work streams are cohesive and cross Benefits impacts are considered and mitigated.

  5. Advise internal HR & cross departmental clients on industry standards and leading practices.

  6. Partner with HCM Testing Lead to establish testing scenarios and ensure timely execution of testing.

  7. Partner with Workday and HCM Solution Architect to align business practices and policies related to Benefits.

  8. Provide the Project Manager with status updates and keep them apprised of overall project status.

  9. Demonstrate strong client and stakeholder management to achieve project objectives. 

  10. Support innovation through utilization of best practices as they align with overall BILH mission, vision and values. 

  11. Partner with subject matter experts to ensure accurate and timely completion of project deliverables for the Benefits work stream.

  12. Serving as a liaison for Change Management, updating business process diagrams, reviewing and updating training materials, delivering training, assisting in communication documentation 

  13. Establishing test scenarios, cases, scripts, expected results, and executing test and validating results and updating reporting metrics.

  14. Working in conjunction with the Workday Workstream Lead in the configuration of the system. 

  15. Actively participating in all required Workday training and knowledge transfer from the Workday team.

  16. Working on conversion activities with the conversion team, validating data, correcting data, and obtaining business process owner approval

  17. Working on integration activities with the integration team and vendors and stakeholders through all stages of the implementation and post implementation 

  18. Identifying & validating reporting and security requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Associate/Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource, IS, Business Management or related area

Licensure, Certification & Registration: N/A


  • 3+ years experience with progressive responsibility in the Benefits arena with an emphasis on Benefits system utilization

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills are essential; must possess the ability to interact with people from all organizational levels and build consensus through negotiation and diplomacy

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.
