About the Job

Position Summary: Reporting to the MRI Chief Technologist, the primary function and responsibility of the MRI Lead Technologist is the day to day MRI operation, including the interaction between all departments at the hospital and outpatient center.   Under the direction of the Chief Technologist, the Lead Technologist ensures that staff technologists utilize their technical skills and training to ensure the safe and accurate operations of the MRI scanner. Under general supervision of the Chief Technologist and under the direction of a Radiologist, can perform diagnostic MRI/MRA on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients on designated areas of the body as requested by a physician.

Essential Duties & Responsibilites including but not limited to: 

• Utilizes all their technical skills and training to ensure the safe and accurate operation of the MRI scanner including the screening of all patients and visitors
• Conducts ACR quality control activities and documents appropriately.
• Assists technologists with procedure guidance as needed for diagnostic quality and supervises patient flow as needed.
• Oversees and coordinates training for new technical staff members.
• Ensures that the site is in compliance with the Department of Public Health, Hospital quality assurance and standards set by the American College of Radiology
• Maintains scan schedule and interacts with the support staff to ensure that proper scheduling is conducted for each patient.
• Oversees ordering of adequate supplies and ensures that staff stock scan room and changing areas.
• Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality under minimal supervision.  Perform these duties using independent judgment and initiative
• Demonstrates initiative and timely follow through on all work assignments.
• Must project an image of professionalism in conduct, appearance, communication and team work.  Participates in the continuous quality improvement process of the department.
• Participates in hospital wide compliance assessments
• Will be required to take call and rotate to both MRI sites
• Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate of an Accredited School of Radiologic Technology. Upholds standards set by the ARRT regarding diagnostic procedures and professional ethics.

License, Certification & Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or Bachehlor of Science Degree in Advanced Level Certification in MRI, Basic Life Support 

Experience: 

• Experience in MRI setting preferred
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must maintain a professional manner and appearance
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team
• Must be self-motivated and have ability to work in a healthcare setting
• Must have basic computer skills
• Must have basic skills and knowledge necessary to perform venipuncture
• Supervisory experience preferred
