About the Job


  Under the general supervision of the Blood Bank Manager, this position provides administrative and technical oversight for the Blood Bank. This includes training, procedure review, assisting with personnel hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions, staff development and competency assessment, purchasing and monitoring of expenses. The Technical Supervisor participates in the overall managerial and operational functions necessary to ensure fulfillment of the department mission, as well as Lahey Hospital and Medical Center’s mission. As Transfusion Safety Officer, the candidate will act as liaison to other departments regarding transfusion practice and safety and take point for inspections including, but not limited to AABB, FACT, FDA, TJC and CAP. Schedule would be primarily Monday -Friday, but could include a rare weekend or holiday, if needed. This individual would share “on call” responsibility with the Blood Bank Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry or the National Certification Agency (NCA) for Medical Laboratory personnel. or by American Medical Technologists (AMT) for Medical Laboratory personnel is required. Certification as Medical Laboratory Personnel by any certifying agency considered equivalent (AAB or HEW for example) is acceptable.

Education:  Baccalaureate degree including laboratory internship at an institution certified by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Candidates with a Baccalaureate degree or Associates degree in Science are acceptable if all other qualifications are met. 

Experience:  A minimum of four years full-time experience as a Medical Technologist is required.  Experience should include 1-2 years in a Sr. Technologist  or supervisory role.
