About the Job
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides direct patient care in accordance with Winchester Hospital's policies and procedures and the scope of practice for Registered Nurses in Massachusetts. Completes assessments, performs treatments, administers appropriate drug therapies, observes patient’s progress, records responses/reactions to interventions, and evaluates therapies for clinical outcomes and effectiveness. Works collaboratively with the patient, the patient’s family/significant others, and all members of the health care team to achieve the expected outcomes.

b. Continuing education/in services to enhance knowledge
c. Staff meetings
d. Performance improvement initiatives
e. Orientation of new staff, students and/or volunteers
f. Participation in community activities is encouraged.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Note: RNs that were hired prior to 10/1/13 that do not have a BSN are grandfathered.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
All registered nurses need Basic Life Support certification as per our Life Support Certification and Renewal policy. Some departments required additional life support certification:
A4 nurses also require Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and if they float onto L&D, SCN, MBU, NRP required
Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby Unit and Special Care Nursery nurses also require Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and if they float onto A4, PALS required
Maternal Child Health Float Pool require NRP and if float onto A4, PALS is required.
A1, ICU, Radiology, Ambulatory Care Unit, Cardiac Rehab, Cardiology, Endoscopy, Pain Center, and Med/Surg Float Pool nurses also require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Emergency Department, Walk in Urgent Care, Urgent Care Woburn, Day Surgery, Post Anesthesia Care (PACU) at Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Post Anesthesia Care (PACU) Unit nurses also require both ACLS and PALS.
POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Positions assigned to Special Care Nursery provide patient care to Neonates and Infants.
Positions assigned to Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby Unit provide patient care to Neonatal, Adolescent (age 13 to 18) and Adult populations.
Positions assigned to A3, B2, B3, Cardiac Rehab, Endoscopy and Pain Center provide care for Adult and Geriatric patients.
Positions assigned to A1, C3, Intensive Care Unit, Breast Care Center, Cardiology, Oncology, Radiology, Hyperbaric Center and Wound Care Center provide patient care to Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric populations.
Positions assigned to Surgical Services’ Holding Area, and Ambulatory Care Unit provide patient care to Children, Adolescent, Adult, and, Geriatric populations.
Positions assigned to the Ambulatory Surgery Center, ACU, Preadmission Testing, Day Surgery, Operating Room, and PACU provide care for Infant, Children, Adolescent, Adult, and, Geriatric patients.
Positions assigned to A4, Emergency Department, Walk in Urgent Care, and IV Therapy provide patient care to all population groups.
