About the Job

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading, developing and coordinating the operation of Pharmacy Services.  The Director of Pharmacy Services shall develop services that provide and enhance quality patient care while promoting fiscal responsibility in the utilization of resources.  Within the scope of budget responsibilities, the Director of Pharmacy Services shall direct the activities that provide for the purchasing, receiving, storage, delivery and distribution of medications from the pharmacy.  The incumbent will be responsible for the regulatory compliance and optimization of the 340B program.  The Director of Pharmacy Services shall plan, direct, monitor and evaluate the provision of distributive and clinical pharmacy services to all patient care areas.  Responsible for multiple campuses including Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital, and Lahey Outpatient Center in Danvers

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for all routine operations of the Department of Pharmacy Services.  Develops programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organizations overall strategic plan.
  2. Develops operational and capital budgets consistent with Beverly/Addison Gilbert Hospitals and BILH System, and manages operating expenses and key indicators within the budget.  Develops, implements, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and integrates pharmacy services that contribute to the overall success and financial viability of pharmacy services.  Uses creativity in the delivery of services and products in a highly competitive market.
  3. Ensures regulatory compliance, cost savings and revenue optimization of the 340B Program.
  4. Provides appropriate pharmacy representation on hospital and medical staff committees.  Serves as a professional resource for Physicians, Clinical Staff and Administration.  Collaborates with Medical Staff and Clinical Staff regarding pharmacy programs and services.
  5. Defines and resolves issues with the medication distribution system and continually evaluates performance relative to need for improvement of processes to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of medications to all patient care areas.  Plans, supports and leads Quality Improvement efforts for relevant pharmacy services.
  6. Manages human resources by recruiting, selecting, hiring and orienting qualified candidates.  Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner.  Develops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development.  Creates a cohesive pharmacy team committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.
  7. Develops and monitors departmental policies and procedures.  Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory agency and accreditation standards.
  8. Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/documents medication errors and attends safety in-services, when appropriate. 

Qualifications

 

Requires current pharmacy licensure in the State of Massachusetts, a degree in Pharmacy (advanced degree preferred) from an accredited College of Pharmacy, and a minimum of five years pharmacy management experience.  Must possess good organizational and computer skills.  Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, Physicians and other contacts

Certification/License: 

1. Must be Registered with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy
