About the Job

The Windows System Administrator is responsible for the installation, support, and management of Microsoft Windows and VMware Servers supporting the clinical, financial and other business units across Lahey Health System. The Windows System Administrator will act as a hands-on contributor, subject matter expert and resident consultant for a broad range of Windows Server and VMware technologies, processes, and best practices including but not limited to Windows recovery, patching, security, Service Level Agreements, systems interoperability, server virtualization (VMWare), high availability, business continuity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Proactively manage and maintain core Windows and VMware systems
  • Maintain OS build standards
  • Server monitoring and alerting 
  • Backup and Recovery, maintain process standards 
  • Maintain anti-virus on Windows Servers 
  • Patching of Windows and VMware hosts 
  • Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation 
  • DNS and DHCP administration 
  • Participate in Change Control Process as Subject Matter Expert of supported systems 
  • Assist with hardware and software vendor evaluation, recommendation 
  • Mentor / cross train team members on existing and new technologies 
  • Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans 
  • Follow policies and procedures in alignment with ITIL to support enterprise service delivery 
  • Participate in Server Team on-call rotation 
  • Assist with the procurement of hardware and software assets 
  • Interact with customers and staff at the technical level, as required 
  • Carry out special tasks at Management's direction 
  • Create system specifications for new installs and upgrades 
  • Analyze risk and implement risk mitigation activities 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 

  • 2 year degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or equivalent work experience.

Licensure, Certification & Registration: n/a

Experience: 

  • Windows Server administration

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

  • Microsoft Windows Server 
  • VMware ESXi 
  • Scripting / Task automation. 
  • PowerShell experience a plus 
  • Operating System hardening, patching and remediation 
  • Performance tuning, capacity management, and server monitoring 
  • DNS and DHCP administration 
  • Basic networking experience; routing, switches, and common IP port usage 
  • Installation and configuration of server hardware 
  • Understanding of backup and restore terminology 
  • Problem solver, consensus builder, results oriented with ability to quickly take action to achieve goals 
  • Energetic, self-confident, persuasive.
