About the Job

Position Summary

Provides for the emotional and spiritual support of the patients, their loved ones, and colleagues as a member of the Spiritual Care and Education Department. This position will require flexible coverage, depending on needs, for both Beverly Hospital, Beverly MA, and Addison Gilbert Hospital, fifteen minutes north of Beverly in Gloucester MA. Mileage for travel between hospitals will be included.

This care and collaboration extends to colleagues throughout the organization, community clergy, and the community at large.

  • Provides spiritual, emotional, and religious support for patients, their loved ones, and colleagues; is able to function as an interfaith minister in the acute health care setting, comfortable providing appropriate spiritual support regardless of religious affiliation or absence of religious affiliation
  • Is familiar with conducting a spiritual assessment in the acute health care setting, and is familiar with and able to document a spiritual care visit in the progress notes of electronic medical record
  • Serves on hospital committees when appropriate and collaborates with inter-professional team members
  • Assists as appropriate with educational programs, services, and other creative ways we care for the spiritual, emotional, and religious needs of patients and colleagues
  • Works collaboratively with area clergy and hospital volunteers as needed to support patient care

Scheduled Hours

Per diem, hours assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity degree (or equivalent graduate degree in a related field)
  • APC, NACC, or NAJC Board certified chaplain; or minimum of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with commitment to continue working toward board certification.
  • Previous formation for health care ministry which includes astute awareness of self and others; commitment to providing inclusive and welcoming care for a diverse population; willingness to serve and collaborate with others in a complex acute health care setting
  • Willingness to maintain and take responsibility for ongoing professional growth and learning
