About the Job

Position Summary:   

 

Under the general guidance of the Executive Director, the manager provides administrative and technical leadership as well as overall management of Laboratory Services at Lahey Medical Center, Peabody. This includes instrument and test selection, training, procedure review, personnel hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions, staff development and competency assessment, and budget developing and monitoring.  Laboratory Services encompasses Hematology, Chemistry and Andrology testing and operates 24 hours a day. In addition, the manager has oversight over Phlebotomy Services and Specimen Processing. The Manager accepts responsibility for the overall managerial and operational functions necessary to ensure fulfillment of the department mission, as well as Lahey Hospital & Medical Center’s mission.  The Manager works independently and demonstrates advanced technical and administrative skills in major areas of the laboratory.  Coverage includes occasional weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, to include laboratory internship at an institution certified by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry  for Medical Laboratory personnel or by American Medical Technologists (AMT) for Medical Laboratory personnel.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

           

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan and facilitate organized and productive meetings/workgroups.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve complex issues with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects with competing priorities and aggressive deadlines.
  • Strong analytic skills in order to manipulate, interpret and utilize data for process improvement.
  • In-depth understanding of context of assignments and tasks, and the ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing roles and priorities.
  • Ability for strategic thinking, decision making, leadership and organizational planning,
  • Knowledge of clinical tests and standards necessary to perform complex tests and accurately report result.
  • Analytic ability to perform complex tests, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instruments, etc.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure and handle stress to meet deadlines.
  • Manual dexterity and acuity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens, and operate instrumentation and a computer.
  • Interpersonal verbal and written English language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians and other colleagues.

 Experience:  Five years full-time experience as a Medical Technologist is preferred.  Experience should include 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
