About the Job

Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant analyzes financial information and prepares financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within the organization.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
 

  • Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Assists in the computation of the annual tax returns.
  • Prepares journal entries for entry into the general ledger.
  • Reconciles general ledger balances to source data.
  • Analyzes expense accounts and balances sheet accounts.
  • Maintains and updates data on inventories, fixed assets, investments, cash and receivables.
  • Performs bank reconciliations..
  • Prepares forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel, and functions as a resource for them.
  • Assists controller with abandoned property process.
  • Prepares schedules for the annual audit by a CPA firm.  
  • Maintains strict compliance with Lahey Clinic Confidentiality Policy
  • Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
  • Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Assists the controller with ad hoc projects as they arise.
  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  BS in Accounting

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Not required.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to use electronic spreadsheet; proficiency in math, accounting, multifunction electronic calculator, and related office tools. General professional skills including good writing and communication are necessary. In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

Experience: 1-3 years accounting experience in a healthcare setting.
