About the Job

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the office supervisor the Pathology Secretary:  

Must have excellent written and verbal pathology terminology and be able to work in a fast paced environment with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Transcribing final and rough versions of tape recorded and handwritten material.
  • Accessioning cytology specimens into the lab computer system.
  • Handle telephones, relay and record messages and/or answer questions.
  • Distribute final reports to appropriate locations and physicians.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education:  Knowledge of office practices and procedures typically acquired by completing a secretarial/office assistant program.

 

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  None required   

 

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Must have the ability to use a PC and PC based software/systems effectively.

Word processing, medical terminology and other office skills to efficiently produce necessary documents.

Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills.

In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

Experience:     Successful completion of a secretarial program or equivalent work experience of two years for each year of  study.
