About the Job

Position Summary:

The Pathology Manager provides technical, operational and administrative management for Anatomic Pathology and Cytology.

  • Ensures that all activities are conducted in accordance to acceptable clinical technology, administrative policy, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Management of daily operations, personnel management, project coordination and other shared interdepartmental activities.
  • Develops and maintains department policies.
  • Ability to prepare operating budget and monitor financial operation and supply inventory. 
  • Investigates and recommends new/replacement instrumentation to Executive Director and Medical Director.
  • Acts as a liaison between customers and the laboratory to promote increased customer satisfaction with laboratory services by both successfully answering inquiries, resolving problems and by presenting a positive, professional image.
  • Demonstrates knowledge related to management and supervision of personnel including hiring, counseling and evaluation of employees; creating work schedules and conducting staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates the ability and initiative to problem solve with employees and other managers/supervisors.
  • Develops and implements an annual Quality Improvement plan.
  • Responsible for CAP compliance:  CAP proficiency testing – assigning, completing forms and submitting to CAP.  Maintaining and updating CAP preparedness and participates in CAP surveys.
  • Validate new products and procedures.
  • Assists on surgical pathology bench as needed.
  • Represents the Lab as the Lab Safety Officer, maintains and updates Lab Safety Manual policies, and participates on the Hospital’s Safety Committee.
  • Serves as representative to hospital committees as required or requested.
  • Works closely with EPIC Beaker analysts to maintain AP Beaker module.  Runs QA and other  reports for Executive Director and Medical Director. 
  • As assigned, responsible for call on weekends and holidays.

Scheduled Hours

Full-time 40 hours per week, day shfit.  Would consider a part-time candidate 25-30 hours per week.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree plus experience required. 
  • License/Certifications:  ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist, Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred. 
  • Minimum 5 years relevant Histology laboratory operations.
  • 2 years of previous supervisory experience, previous manager experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.  Epic experience preferred.
