Medical Surgery Clinical Educator Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Education Department Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the Associate Chief Nursing Officer Clinical and Professional Development, Informatics and Capacity Management, the clinical educator works alongside the Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Leader for inpatient units practicing  within the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center.  The Clinical Educator promotes excellence in nursing practice by providing expert education and instruction regarding nursing care to patients and functions as a clinical/educational resource to nursing staff. The clinical educator supports the nursing staff through programs such as Nurse Residency, Nurse Fellowship, Newly Licensed Nurse Orientation, and Preceptor Programs. The clinical educator develops competencies and education related to changes in policies, process/workflow and new devices while incorporating the nurse-patient/family relationship, continuity of care and accountability that are central to the delivery of individualized high quality patient care.

The Med/Surg Clinical Educator facilitates the coordination of care across the continuum and demonstrates safe practice within the domains of:

  •         Clinical judgment and decision making
  •         Nurse-patient/family relationship
  •         Clinical leadership
  •         Clinical scholarship

The Med/Surg Clinical Educator provides direct and indirect care to patients in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. The Clinical educator maintains a current level of knowledge and skill with clinical procedures as defined by nursing specialty organizations, complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse.

The Med/Surg Clinical Educator will work primarily with the Med/Surg Units including Hematology/ Oncology, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, Ortho/Trauma, Oncology, Transplant, Urology/Colorectal, Neurology, General Surgical, Vascular Access Team, Dialysis, American Red Cross and Float Pool. This position supports nurses and staff for all shifts.

The Med/Surg Clinical Educator will help to develop education/competencies in our simulation lab and in the Healthstream Learning Management platform.  Education involves the utilization of multimodal educational modalities, such as iSpring to create videos and, as well as, to work with staff in person and in virtual environments. We are a growing education team that is looking for an innovative educator to excite our staff in meeting the demands of the dynamic healthcare environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Master of Science, Nursing Education or equivalent advanced degree in health related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience in order to have full understanding of Nursing Education functions.
  • Active MA RN license and BSN required
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting
  • Hematology/Oncology experience is a plus but not required

 

 

Shift

40 hours days with occasional off shift hours
