SICU Nurse Manager
We are seeking a talented Nurse Manager to manage and grow our Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) / Cardiothoracic ICU (CT ICU). The SICU is a 24-bed acute intensive care area specializing in the care of patients following Level 1 trauma, postoperative multi-system failure and liver or kidney transplants. The experienced and highly skilled nurses in the SICU also provide care to patients following cardiothoracic surgery in the CT ICU. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:1 or 2:1 throughout all shifts. Using the latest technologies, nursing staff provide care to patients requiring ventilatory support, hemodynamic monitoring, ICP monitoring, CRRT, IABP and BIVADS, in addition to providing support and comfort to the families of these patients.
Under the general direction of the Director of Critical Care, the Nurse Manager is responsible for day to day operations, practice development, communicating policies, and evaluates staff job performance. The Nurse Manager works in collaboration with key stakeholder’s and department leadership to coordinate the delivery of patient care. The Nurse Manager assumes the responsibility for the plan of care, has the authority to make decisions, and is held accountable for decisions specific to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the plan.
The Nurse Manager practices within the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) Professional Practice Model, MA Nurse Practice Act and ANA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The Nurse Manager coordinates and supervises all nursing staff in assigned clinical patient care units/departments to provide quality patient care.
The Nurse Manager maintains a current level of knowledge with management leadership skills as defined by nursing specialty organizations, complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies, and is currently licensed in the state of Massachusetts as a registered nurse.
Areas of responsibility include:
Education: MSN required, or must be currently enrolled in an accredited program with an expected graduation date. Critical Care experience required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Life Support Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Demonstrated clinical competence in area of nursing practice.
Experience: A minimum of five years of accumulated in-patient nursing experience and two years leadership experience.
