About the Job

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Manager provides technical and administrative management of the Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis departments.

  • Ensures that all activities are conducted in accordance to acceptable clinical technology, administrative policy, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Assumes responsibility for the creation of fiscally sound operating and capital equipment budgets, monitoring expense variances and maintaining appropriate supply inventory.
  • Investigates and recommends new/replacement instrumentation to Executive Director and Medical Director.
  • Acts as a liaison between customers and the laboratory to promote increased customer satisfaction with laboratory services by both successfully answering inquiries, resolving problems and by presenting a positive, professional image.
  • Provides leadership in the management of Human Resources including, but not limited to:  The hiring, counseling and evaluation of employees; creating work schedules; developing applicable staff education and training; and conducting regular staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates the ability and initiative to problem solve with employees and other managers/supervisors.
  • Develops and implements an annual Quality Improvement plan.
  • Performs daily QC management, evaluation and monitoring for lab instrumentation.
  •  Responsible for CAP compliance:  assigns CAP surveys to staff, performs submission, evaluation and responses.  Participates in CAP surveys.
  • Serves as representative to hospital committees as required or requested.
  • Performs applicable IS procedures including, but not limited to: Test dictionary, editing, interface reliability and accuracy, and interacting with IS and software vendor for the resolution of problems or implementation of enhancements.
  • As assigned, responsible for call on weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Baccalaureate degree in a biological or physical science or Medical Technology training and at least five years of current laboratory training or experience.
