About the Job
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).. The ICU/CCU is a 16 bed mixed medical/cardiac ICU. We care for patients to provide cutting edge treatments and high-quality patient centered care. Our patient population include hemodynamically unstable myocardial infarctions (NSTEMI and STEMI), those who are critically ill pre- and/or post-interventional cardiology procedures, acute and/or end stage mulit-system organ failure, end stage liver disease, as well as patients with neurological diagnosis, various coagulopathic conditions, and other medically complex patients. LHMC works closely with New England Donor Services to facilitate the care of and support for patients and families who are participating in gifting life saving organ and/or tissue donation. ICU/CCU nurses are highly trained to utilize invasive monitoring and/or support/treatment using targeted temperature management, EVDs, CRRT, IABP, Impella, VADs, EKOS, and ECMO as treatment modalities. Colleagues are expected to be personally invested in their professional development with a goal of being able to capably care for and manage our patient population with educational support from the CC leadership and education team.
The work environment in the ICU/CCU is fast-paced with high patient turnover. Unit and nursing leadership strives to collaborate with staff to consistently promote a healthy work environment including a culture that supports a healthy work life balance. We provide support and care for our patients, their families and each other, by demonstrating adaptability, teamwork, and compassion. Multidisciplinary collaboration is paramount to the delivery of quality, patient centered care. The number of patient beds in this unit is 16.
Nurse/patient ratio is either 1:2 or 1:1 dependent on patient acuity.
Current RN MA License
BLS required, American Heart Association, ACLS preferred
You may be asked to change to a shift rotation to support the needs of patients in critical care units if necessary. If there is a need, your manager will discuss the schedule change with you in advance.
