About the Job

Position Summary:

Supports the mission of the department by ensuing that the right medications are picked, compounded, and delivered in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of an inpatient pharmacist. Maintains a full understanding of the medication distribution system and demonstrates competency in accurately filling medications, delivering medications, and compounding sterile and non-sterile medications as assigned.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Performs the duties of a Pharmacy Technician I, and the following:


  1. Completes scheduled nursing station and clinic area inspection assignments in a timely manner.


  1. Maintains competency in aseptic technique/sterile compounding and routinely works in the following areas in addition to the Central Pharmacy:
    1. Central IV Room
    2. OR Pharmacy


  1. Utilizes specific automation for repackaging/compounding:
    1. Unit-dose pre-packer
    2. TPN compounder
    3. Repeater pump


  1. Facilitates the receiving and dispensing of controlled substances from the CII safe



  1. Participates in new employee orientation/onboarding/training.

Minimum Qualifications:


High School diploma or equivalent

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

State of Massachusetts Licensed Technician



2 years relevant work experience, completion of a 2 year pharmacy technician associates degree program, or 6 months as a Lahey Pharmacy Technician I


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Math skills
  • An understanding of standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications
  • English communication skills including oral and written comprehension and expression 
  • Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the handling and distribution of controlled substances and hazardous materials
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record preferred
