About the Job
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Pathology section team leader, the technician will prepare specimens, reagents, and perform all required laboratory procedure techniques for the analysis of tissue specimens. The technician performs start-up, maintenance, troubleshooting procedures on instruments and laboratory equipment. The technician will be familiar with the core knowledge of Anatomic Pathology specimen requirements and the associated workflow processes. The Laboratory Technician will perform all aspects of gross anatomic pathology including dissecting and describing surgical specimens, and assisting the pathologist with autopsies. The Laboratory Technician performs frozen section tissue specimens preparations and assists the pathologist with the intra-operative reporting. The Laboratory Technician performs clinical immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology assays and the associated supporting work for use in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. He/she performs associated quality control and quality assurance procedures as required. The Laboratory Technician responds to telephone inquiries from laboratory personnel, physicians, or other interested parties and resolves a variety of routine problems.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science is required, and previous laboratory experience is preferred, but new grads will be considered.
