About the Job

Provides for the emotional and spiritual support of the patients, their loved ones, and staff of Beverly Hospital/Lahey Health as a member of the Spiritual Care and Education Department. This care and collaboration extends to community clergy, as well as clinical programs and the community at large.

  • Provides spiritual, emotional, and religious support for patients, their loved ones, and colleagues; is able to function as an interfaith minister in the acute health care setting, comfortable providing appropriate spiritual support regardless of religious affiliation or absence of religious affiliation
  • Is familiar with conducting a spiritual assessment in the acute health care setting, and is able to document a spiritual care visit in the electronic medical record
  • Serves on hospital committees and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members
  • Works collaboratively with area clergy and hospital volunteers as needed to support patient care and form collegial partnerships with area faith communities
  • Develops and facilitates services, educational programs, and other creative ways to care for the spiritual, emotional, and religious needs of patients and colleagues

Scheduled Hours

Per diem, hours assigned as needed.

  • Master of Divinity degree (or equivalent graduate degree in a related field)
  • Board certified chaplain; or minimum of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with commitment to continue working toward board certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, the Association of Catholic Chaplains, or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains
  • Previous formation for health care ministry which includes astute awareness of self and others; commitment to providing inclusive and welcoming care for a diverse population; willingness to serve and collaborate with others in a complex acute health care setting
  • Willingness to maintain ongoing professional growth and learning
