About the Job

Under the direction and in collaboration with the Vice President of Addiction Treatment Services, the Program Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) including program design and implementation and fiscal and facility management.  The Program Director is responsible for ensuring that services meet established licensing, accreditation and quality standards as well as customer service objectives.

The Program Director's Responsibilities:

  1. Ensures that the program is in compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements at all times.
  2. Develops implements and enforces program specific policies and procedures.
  3. Maintains current knowledge of Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorders.
  4. Provides training and supervision to ensure that evidence based practices are used in programming.
  5. Ensures adherence to the medical protocols and guidelines under the direction of the Medical Director.
  6. Ensures sound fiscal management of the program through development and monitoring of the programs operating budget, maximizing revenue collection and identifying and implementing cost saving measures. 
  7. Works in collaboration with the Finance Department to monitor conformance to policies and procedures relative to fee structure and fee collection. 
  8. Ensures an adequate staffing pattern at the program at all times. 
  9. Develops and maintains working relationships with other community base service providers including but not limited to: primary health care, elder care services and psychiatric services and
  10. Participates in monthly divisional leadership meetings and other meetings as requested.

Directly supervises the Clinical Supervisor, Nurse Manager, Recovery Specialist Supervisor, Admissions Coordinator and Administrative Assistant.  Indirectly supervises all other staff including the nursing and clinical staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Participates in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsible for managing the program budget on a daily basis. In addition, works within approved budget; develops and implements cost saving measures and maximized revenue collection.



  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, healthcare administration or another related field required.  At least three years of supervisory experience required. Experience working with persons with substance use disorders required.  A Massachusetts Driver’s License is also required. 
  • Candidates with behavioral health care licenses eligible for third part reimbursement preferred. Also, candidates with previous methadone treatment experience are preferred.  Knowledge of program administration and budget development and management and the ability to effectively use standard Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred. 
  • Must demonstrate ability to relate to a substance abuse treatment population in a sensitive manner, an interest and willingness to work in a multicultural setting and must share a customer service orientation. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics. Manages difficult or emotional client situations; Responds promptly to client needs and maintains confidentiality
