About the Job

As part of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Institute team, the Clinical Data Analyst (CDA) will support research activities by working with various research datasets and tools. This position utilizes skills in data analysis, data manipulation against large-scale datasets and support for medical research. The Analyst must be able to understand the business/research scenario, analyze, interpret and communicate findings to all levels of the research team. The Analyst will administratively report to CERI Research Program Manager, work effort will be managed by CERI Informatics Specialist(System Architect).  The Analyst will work in collaboration with research teams at Lahey and other collaborating institutions. It is important to note that this position will require flexible and, occasionally, extended, work hours during some project phases.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

The Analyst would be responsible for projects as prioritized by the leadership of CERI including three general projects requiring immediate implementation:

 

  1. Support further development of the Lahey Health Observational Database Environment (LHODE) as a research resource that provides;
    1. Data originating from the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) System into the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) as a standard format to foster research collaboration.
    2. Data marts for the various departments and stakeholders, used to support a specific research activity.
    3. Integration of registries data with EHR data to create research data marts.

 

  1. Support the development of extensible and interoperable data elements using standardized ontologies and data structures to include;
    1. Working with various ontology systems such as ICD, CPT, LOINC to build reusable value sets.
    2. Implementation of complex clinical concept definitions to derive data elements.

 

  1. Support the development of Data Evaluation and Longitudinal Trend Analysis (DELTA) system, a primary tool developed by CERI to perform active surveillance for safety and quality of medical devices, drugs, procedures and treatments. To support this activity the analyst will;
    1. Develop research study datasets using the DELTA data modelling module.
    2. Iteratively configure studies using DELTA to test functionality, usability, and work as a user advocate and liaison with the development team.
    3. Critically review result output from DELTA to ensure integrity, formatting and compliance with standards (if any).
    4. Develop user-based documentation and any related training resources.

Functions:

  • Collaborate with research coordinators, statisticians, investigators and other research faculty to implement a statistical analysis plan.
  • Develop, write, execute, test, debug, implement, modify and support new or existing statistical plans in support of research projects.
  • Write documentation.
  • Manage, reformat, enter, edit, merge and maintain data in preparation for analysis.
  • Conduct validation checks.
  • Query reports for problematic data (erroneous or illogical data values); send to research team lead for resolution.
  • Transfer data among different formats for analysis purposes.
  • Analyze data using SQL or other programming language or tools to generate descriptive statistics and develop statistical models and graphics.
  • Review statistical output for consistency and quality.
  • Prepare tables and quality graphics of statistical results for inclusion in interim and final reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscript submissions and grant applications.
  • Communicate statistical results to research lead and team.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:   A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a healthcare related field such as Nursing, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Medical Informatics, Health Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  None

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of healthcare data with the ability to understand medical concepts in view of a clinical dataset.
  • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) is a must.
  • Knowledge of healthcare research will be very beneficial.
  • Effective leadership, oral communication, writing, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Additionally a basic knowledge in proposal development and grant writing is beneficial.
  • Any knowledge of programing using Python, R, Stata is good to have but not required.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in Health Informatics, data analysis, research analysis support experience in a clinical/healthcare environment
