About the Job

Within Lahey Health Shared Services under the Chief Revenue Office, under the direct leadership of the Manager of ED Registration & Financial Counseling, the intern(s) will have the opportunity to learn and participate in a number of trainings, meetings, and projects within various departments of Revenue Cycle.  The intern will develop an understanding of Revenue Cycle operations within LHSS with focus on Patient Access, Hospital, and Professional Billing.  This includes an average of 10-12 hours per week of hands-on frontline administrative work.

The preceptor will help to insure the achievement of the student’s learning goals. These learning goals should include:

  • Academic learning: Applying knowledge learned in the classroom to the workplace.
  • Career development: Gaining some knowledge of a position and exploring interest in a field.
  • Skill development: Gaining an understanding of the skills and knowledge required in the workplace.
  • Personal development: Enhancing decision-making skills, critical-thinking skills, and increasing self-esteem.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Assists and provides support in carrying out duties in the administrative department. 
  • Performs assigned administrative duties both independently and as a member of a team.  This includes working in the clinical environment completing duties such as: registering patients, updating patient records, answering phones, and facilitating other administrative needs.
  • May utilize databases and spreadsheets, design graphic elements (e.g., charts and tables) for reports and presentations. 
  • Assist with general duties as assigned, providing telephone coverage, front desk coverage, handling correspondence & filing, handling mail and other duties. Ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Represent Lahey Health in a positive and professional manner
  • Respect and comply with all personal safety equipment policies
  • Updates records, answers questions and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Greet and receive inquiries in a positive and courteous manner - both in person and on the phone.
  • Follow-up on assignments to successful completion.


Education: One year of College


Experience: One to two years of experience in customer service or in the health care field.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required.   Must exhibit tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times.  
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, detail oriented environment.  
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite and database systems with the ability to learn new systems as they become available. 
  • In the absence of any of these skills, must demonstrate the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
