Scope of Service Johnson 4 PCU Department
Description Johnson 4 is a 28 bed medical/surgical and cardiac telemetry Progressive Care Unit. Johnson 4 has the capacity for 28 telemetry patients. The telemetry central monitors are located at the nurse’s station at each end of the hall. There are 16 private rooms and 6 semi private rooms. There are two negative pressure isolation rooms. All rooms have sufficient oxygen and suction outlets.
Patient Population Johnson 4 generally accepts patients 16 years of age or older with cardiac and Medical/ surgical conditions. Patients cared for on this unit generally range in age from young adult to geriatric.

A modified primary care nursing model is utilized on Johnson 4. Each patient has a Registered Nurse (RN) who is assisted by a Clinical Assistant. The nurse to patient ratio is most often 1:4. Each patient is assessed by a RN who identifies nursing problems, and then develops, implements, and evaluates an individualized plan of care. There is an identified Team Leader or Charge Nurse for each shift. The Charge Nurse helps to decide staffing based on patient needs and determines the amount of staff on a given shift.
36 hours per week, variable, night shift. Every other weekend & holiday required.
