Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon Opportunity
Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, a member of Beth Israel Lahey Health, seeks a full-time BC/BE Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon. Lahey Hospital and Medical Center (LHMC) in Burlington, MA is an American College of Surgeons Level I Trauma Center and a member of the Boston Medflight helicopter consortium. LHMC Trauma Service has recently been recognized by ACS-TQIP as having best-in-nation outcomes. LH&MC is a 335 bed inpatient hospital with a multi-specialty group practice clinic. LHMC has a new, state of the art Emergency Department that opened in 2017 (50,000+ annual visits).
Working in a team of Acute Care Surgeons, the surgeon while on-duty will be responsible for a service with an average daily census of 20-40 patients. The surgeon will also be responsible for all trauma activations and cover all consults and surgical procedures. If the surgeon is boarded in surgical critical care, nighttime SICU coverage will be provided by the surgeon when in-house for night call. Dedicated daily operating room time is available to the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service. Willingness to be part of a team approach as it relates to the care and well-being of this patient population is essential.
Candidates must have completed an accredited general surgery residency program, and preferred candidates will have fellowship training in trauma/critical care. Board certification in Surgery is required, or if Board eligible, the candidate should be on-track for board certification. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with patients and physicians, and a desire to optimize an excellent patient experience are required. Close communication with hospitalists and specialists is very important, as is an outstanding “bedside manner.” Clinical research in trauma and Acute Care Surgery is expected and supported
Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a physician-led, multi-specialty group practice of approximately 500 physicians. Lahey is an academic affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, and teaching appointments are available through Tufts. Lahey maintains a free-standing surgical residency program, completing three chief residents per year with recent ACGME approval to expand to five chief residents per year. The Trauma and Acute Care Service is staffed with a chief resident, several junior residents and an experienced group of dedicated advanced practitioners.

On March 1, 2019, Lahey Health System, which included LHMC , Winchester and Beverly Hospitals, merged with four other local hospital organizations (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, New England Baptist, Mount Auburn, and Anna Jaques hospitals) to form Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). BILH employs over 35,000 individuals making it the second largest employer in the state. The integrated health-care delivery system consists of over 200 care locations including 13 hospitals, greater than 2400 beds and 5 ambulatory surgery centers.
