About the Job

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures.  Maintains necessary equipment, supplies, and records for these procedures.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Exemplifies Winchester Hospital’s values and Service Excellence standards.  Commits to making every encounter with our patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers the best that it can be. 
  2. Complies with all Winchester Hospital and WPA policies and the Code of Business Conduct.  As required, maintains current life support certification and tuberculosis testing.  Takes responsibility for own safety as well as the safety of patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers.
  3. Works collaboratively with providers in delivering patient care per practice protocols.

4.   Obtains relevant information about the patients and assesses patient needs prior to beginning the exam.  Confirms that clinical indication for the exam is appropriate toexam requested.  Consults with referring physician or radiologist, when necessary,to obtain information prior to beginning exam.

  1. Explains procedure and provides patient with gowning instructions.  Answers patient questions and provides support.

6.   Documents test results per practice protocols.  Communicates test results or changes in patient condition to referring physician.

7.   Maintains clean, organized and well stocked procedure room, communicates restocking to individual responsible for restocking. Utilizes supplies appropriately.  

  1. Recognizes and acts to correct equipment problems or situations adversely affecting validity of test results.
  2. Participates in the following:
  3. Mandatory training requirements as per hospital/unit policies
  4. Continuing education/inservices to enhance knowledge
  5. Staff meetings
  6. Performance improvement initiatives
  7. Orientation of new staff, students and/or volunteers         

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.   Graduate of accredited radiology technology program.

2.   At least one year experience with ultrasound procedures.     

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:  ARDMS registered or eligible

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:  Not Required
