About the Job

The full-time Advanced Practitioner (AP) will join a growing Acute Care/Trauma team at Lahey, working toward Level 1 Trauma Center Accreditation status. The AP will work in collaboration with the acute care/trauma surgeons, PAs and general surgery residents to provide high quality care to postoperative and trauma patients on the floor and presenting to the ED. The AP will participate in patient care rounds and complete admissions, discharges and consults. The AP will also rotate to the outpatient clinic to see patients in follow-up to recent hospital or ED discharge.


Respond to trauma stat, alert, and transfer pages in ED with team (stat/alert) or independently (alert/transfer) depending on the day and staff availability

Trauma/Acute care surgery consults when needed

Complete trauma admissions: writing H&P note, placing orders, filling out trauma communication sheet

Rounding with team in morning and attending on Wednesday morning

Prepare discharges

Respond to floor calls (if covering pager)

Procedures: Insertion/removal chest tubes, laceration repair, suture/staple removal, bedside I&D, NGT insertion/removal/management, JP drain removal 

Rotate with other APs to cover outpatient clinic to see patients in follow-up to hospital or ED discharge.

Communicate relevant patient data via dictation and/or provide complete written documentation in the medical record including summaries of examinations, progress notes, telephone conversations, procedures and tests.  Maintains patient confidentiality.

Adhere to patient care standards as defined by collaborating physician and Medical Director.

Attend regularly scheduled provider meetings (Bi-monthly Provider Division Meeting, Bi-monthly AP Division Meeting, Monthly General Surgery Research Meeting) and serve on committees in order to develop and assist with planning, developing, implementing and monitoring new or revised clinical programs within the group practice.

Participate in ongoing educational programs for Advanced Practitioners; maintain professional development through organizational and community resources, conferences, workshops, etc.; maintain BCLS certification.

Maintain collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff.
