About the Job


Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is one of the world’s premier health care organizations, pioneering innovative treatments and highly specialized surgery utilizing cutting edge technology.  Under the supervision of an inpatient pharmacist, you will:

  • Ensure that patients receive the correct medical in a safe and timely manner
  • Deliver medication to the patient care units
  • Accurately fill medications from the list provided by the automated dispensing machine
  • Deliver medications to the automated dispensing machines on the patient care units in an accurate and timely manner; checking for errors such as expiration dates and wrong strengths
  • Repackage and compound medications, as needed
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels by rotating stock, checking for expired medications, informing pharmacy buyer when inventory is low and checking on wholesale orders
  • Answer phone calls, triage requests and follow through with appropriate action(s)
  • Actively participate in continuous performance improvement activities of the department, including providing suggestions on how to improve day-to-day operation.

Ideal candidates will be a registered technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy.


Part-Time, 20hrs, Days


Position Summary:  

Under direct supervision, assists in dispensing of prescriptions; counts, packages and labels the prescription vials for final verification.  Greets patients for receiving prescriptions and uses the cash register for sales of pharmaceuticals. Performs a range of routine administrative tasks and staff support functions for the pharmacy as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  1. Assists the pharmacist in dispensing of prescriptions; counts, packages and labels the prescription vials for final verification.
  1. Greets patients at the drop-off area and obtains patient demographics for prescription processing.
  1. Greets patients at the pick-up area; collects the appropriate co-payments for the prescriptions and perform all cash register functions for the final sale.
  1. Assists in quality control and inventory control of the medications and supplies within the department.
  1. Performs a range of routine administrative tasks for the pharmacy as required.
  1. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  1. Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals  into daily activities. 
  1. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
  1. Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
  1. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  1. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  1. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
  1. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  1. Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  1. Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.




High School Diploma or GED

Licensure, Certification, Registration:   Must be a registered technician or Pharmacy Intern with the MA Board of Pharmacy

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:         

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription drugs.
  • Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Skill in understand and use of PC based cash register.
  • Clerical, word processing, and/or office skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications

In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
