About the Job
Funded under a grant from the Health Policy Commission, the Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) Team was created to reduce 30 day ED revisits for patients who have opioid use disorder.
As a member of a team of ED physicians, ED mid-level providers, and Recovery Coaches, the NP/PA will work directly with patients, families, caregivers and providers. The NP/PA will provide leadership and guidance in protocol development and implementation for medication assisted therapy in the Emergency Department. The nurse practitioner will assess patients to identify signs of opioid use disorder and will work collaboratively with emergency department staff in implementation of MAT protocols. The NP/PA will educate patients about Medication Assisted Therapy options and if needed will administer the COWS scale and the first dose of medication if indicated. The NP/PA will develop protocols for the ED staff and will train the ED staff on these protocols. The NP/PA will support the ED providers for the period of the grant funding. The NP/PA will also provide support to the Recovery Coaches in the ED. The NP/PA will work collaboratively with the LEAP clinic providers to ensure that patients initiated on the MAT protocols are followed up with in the LEAP clinic. The NP/PA will assist the LEAP clinic to ensure coverage for 7 days per week including weekends. The NP will report to the Clinical Administrator of the SHIFT Grant and will collect data and develop reports as required by the grant. The NP will be required to obtain DEA X waiver certification to be able to prescribe MAT under the guidance of supervising MD.
