Oncology nurses administer medicine and cancer treatments such as chemotherapy to help rid their patients of cancer. Oncology nurses educate their at-risk patients about ways to prevent cancer, cancer screening and the benefits of early detection. These nurses must be prepared to work with patients who have been diagnosed with life threatening conditions. It requires emotional stability to help patients and their families work through the treatment process and cope with the disease.
Certified by ONS (Oncology Nurse Society) in Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, preferred/within a year
Education: Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
- Current license to practice professional nursing from the Massachusetts Board of Registration
- BLS certification from American Heart Association
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Clinical Skills/Technical Knowledge
a. Demonstrates the necessary clinical skills and technical knowledge to provide care for patients according to Nursing Policy and Procedures. See Skill Record.

c. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
DAYS; 12hr shifts with every other weekend

As Lahey continues to grow, we are seeking experienced and qualified nurses for our Hemo./Oncology 7 West unit. Nurses on the 7 West Hospital unit care for a variety of patients in a 35-bed setting with particular emphasis on hematology and medical oncology. In addition, this unit contains autologous stem cell transplant suites. 7 West nurses also care for general medical patients and various postoperative patients. Services provided to patients on this unit include intravenous chemotherapy administration, management of complex chemotherapy-related toxicities, management of oncologic emergencies, telemetry monitoring, and seizure monitoring. Patient support may also include cancer pain management and emotional support for the patient and his or her family.
