Registered Nurse - Medical Day CareJob ID 147054 Date posted 05/23/2018
In this role, you will assume responsibility to lead our team in providing quality patient care. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care from admission to discharge and you will be responsible to direct, assign and supervise ancillary staff team members in providing the appropriate level of care in the most efficient manner. You will also act as a role model to staff members.
MDC/CDU is typically staffed with 10 RNs, and 2 CA/AA who works staggered hours to accommodate the volume and flow of patients. There is a designated inpatient nurse manager to oversee the unit. Patient PCP or specialty physician provides medical coverage and must have privileges at LHS for MDC patients.
The one exception to this is a patient who has been seen in LHS ED for an animal bite and requires rabies vaccination, in which case the ED physician may provide orders vaccination. The CDU patients are covered by the assigned ED physician and ED PA/NP.
The CCU provides back up coverage in the event of an emergency. The CCU is next door to the MDC/Holding Unit.
All nurses have participated in a competency-based orientation and have demonstrated unit-specific competencies. All nurses have American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and are telemetry certified. Nurses receive appropriate on-going education related to the needs of the unit and meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing for continuing education credits.
Qualified candidates will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license.
BCLS & ACLS required.
Must have telemetry experience and at least 2 years experience in medical-surgical nursing.
Lab drawing, EKG, charge experience and Float experience preferred.
Experience with observation status patients; IV skills preferred; phlebotomy skills preferred; experience with scheduling, therapy plans, and charges for outpatients preferred; charge experience preferred.
24 hours per week, 2 12 hour shifts, 7p-7:30a. Every other weekend & holiday required.
