Project Manager Performance Improvement

Position Summary:

The Performance Improvement Project Manager will lead, facilitate, manage, and support cross-functional teams charged with (re)designing processes critical to improving access, patient throughput, quality, and provider/colleague satisfaction across Lahey Health. Partnering with physician, nursing, and administrative leaders, the Performance Improvement Project Manager is responsible for system level improvements from process development/design and test through the setting of performance metrics, implementation and monitoring.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Project manage critical system wide imperatives as identified by executive leadership
- Align other Lahey Health initiatives to leverage system wide improvement opportunities
- Develop project manager standard work tools, templates and methodologies as aligned with industry best practices
- Develop and maintain critical infrastructure to ensure effective and efficient departmental operations are maintained
- Provide regular updates to project leadership and key stakeholders
- Ensure all improvement initiative metrics align with established scorecards and specific reporting to sustain all improvements gained
- Work collaboratively with all Project Managers, share tools/information, brainstorm solutions to barriers/challenges
- Leverage best practices (internal & external) on all improvement project engagements
- Lead and facilitate specific improvements within a function that will drive or have direct impact on process improvements, cost control and customer satisfaction
- Drive policy and procedural changes and develops measurement criteria
- Assess departmental performance in relation to established goals and standards

Expert in Project Management
Charter, Executing, and Controlling
- Develop project charter and plans including the gathering of information, estimates of cost and resources required through implementation. Define project deliverables for all entities and or units participating in the project
- Develop improvement action plans, quantify the business benefits, and provide leadership and mentoring to ensure implementation
- Drive implementation of critical business metrics & ongoing end-to-end process reviews. This will include the following steps: a) Identify key processes and their indicators; b) Establish baseline metrics; c) Report through financial and business review process; and, d) Develop and implement improvement strategy

- Develop effective communication methods to keep staff and others informed about improvement/(re)design activities aligned with department communication strategy
- Conduct written and oral project updates for project stakeholders and executive sponsors

Change Management
- Incorporates Lahey Health Guiding Principles and Mission Statement into daily activities
- Utilize Best Practices where possible to accelerate change
- Treat colleagues with respect and dignity

Teaching and Coaching
- Coach and mentor team members and process owners to utilize a defined Lean Six Sigma process improvement methodology that analyzes and interprets data for decision making
- Serve as a role model by integrating quality customer service skills, leadership skills and communication skills when interfacing with both internal and external customers

- Lead improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma and other problem solving methods including: Continuous Flow, 5 S, and Value Stream Mapping
- Provide expertise through the use of Quality Tools and Techniques to sustain process improvements

- Be a sought after resource/role model
- Serve as liaison with all Lahey business units, vendors, and other organizations on operational excellence and best practices
- Actively seek opportunities for self-improvement through self-awareness and feedback
- Actively pursues opportunities to become multi-skilled to serve a more diverse role in the organization

Organizational Requirements:

- Participates in other departmental and/or interdepartmental improvement activities
- Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education
- Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Business, Quality, Engineering or other related functional area required; MBA or Masters in Engineering highly desirable, or equivalent industry training and experience.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Certification in Lean, Six Sigma

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Excellent analytical skills
- Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office applications (including access)
- Strong proven leadership, project management, and execution skills
- Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated change agent, self-starter and team player
- Able to work independently and handle multiple priorities
- Capable of leading the charge (sometimes from behind) and thinking "out of the box". Comfortable challenging the status quo while able to work diplomatically to keep stakeholders engaged
- Able to persuade others and gain commitment
- Understands context of assignments and tasks and able to be flexible and adaptable to changing roles & priorities

- 4+ Years applying Six Sigma and Lean Tools and Techniques
- Lean Manufacturing experience and/or Continuous Improvement
- Experience with system level healthcare improvement initiatives
