About the Job

Physician Assistant needed to join a team of Transplant Surgeons, Hepatologists, Nephrologists, a Physician Assistant and House Staff to provide and coordinate multidisciplinary care for a specialized patient population.  The Physician Assistant will co-manage liver transplant, kidney transplant, hepatobiliary, live donor and dialysis patients in a teaching facility. 

Under the direction of an attending physician (surgical or medical), the Physician Assistant is responsible for providing various preoperative, postoperative and medical/surgical care in the intensive care unit and floor, including:  formulation and implementation of a diagnosis and treatment plan, ordering and interpretation of laboratory tests, imaging studies, renal consults in the transplant population, bedside procedures (line placement, feeding tubes, drain management), prescribing and/or dispensing medications, coordination of dialysis, discharge planning, educational counseling for patients and families.  The ability to support a blended medical / surgical population is required.  First assist in the perioperative setting is desirable.

Candidates must possess sufficient flexibility, motivation and emotional intelligence to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment where quality and caring come first.  The ability to interact positively with various members of the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families is paramount to the success of this role.

 

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.

Must possess and maintain, or be eligible for, Mass DPH Controlled Substance registration and DEA registration.   

Practitioners should have at least one year of Advanced Practice experience in Medical or Surgical Transplant, Hospital Medicine, Critical Care or other related fields.
