About the Job

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Working in collaboration with supervision physician(s), provides management of common health problems, patient teaching, health counseling and community outreach.   Acts as a liaison through coordination of care and communication of needs to physician.   Provides clear and timely documentation in the medical record using SOAP format.

Appropriately refers patients using IPA resources and practice guidelines.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Exemplifies Winchester Hospital’s values and Service Excellence standards.  Commits to making every encounter with our patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers the best that it can be.

2. Complies with all Winchester Hospital and WPA policies and the Code of Business Conduct.  Takes responsibility for own safety as well as the safety of patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers.

3. Provides primary care for a select panel of patients.  Consults with physician(s) on these patients and shares responsibility with physician(s) for other patients per Practice and Prescribing Guidelines.

4. Prescribes medication within the scope of practice of supervising physician.

5.   Communicates relevant data verbally and/or in the medical record and maintains

      patient confidentiality.

6.   Submits encounter forms completed per practice guidelines at the end of each session.

7.   Communicates effectively with patients, families, supervising physician(s) and coworkers.

8. Plans for professional development using resources in the practice, WPA and in the

      community.

9. Participates in the following:

1. Mandatory training requirements as per hospital/unit policies
2. Continuing education/inservices to enhance knowledge
3. Staff meetings
4. Performance improvement initiatives
5. Orientation of new staff, students and/or volunteers

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Graduate of Physician Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation

      of Allied Health Education.

2. At least two years experience as a Physician Assistant in an ambulatory setting.
3. Knowledge of insurance, coding and billing regulations.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:  Current licensure as a Physician Assistant and certified from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).  State and Federal DEA licensure.

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:  Basic Life Support

AGE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:  Children, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
2. Ability to use computer.
3. Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy.
4. Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle to travel to hospital and off site meetings Work requires the ability to lift, move, or position patients.

OSHA EXPOSURE:  Job involves possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIY:

1. Reports to Practice Coordinator (administrative responsibilities) and Supervising Physician (clinical responsibilities).
2. Not responsible for supervising the work of others.
