Responsibilities

Position Summary:
The Director of Engineering and Operations is responsible for coordinating all of the technical aspects of Lahey?s technical components and technical infrastructure (systems, storage, virtualization, networks and voice). The Director reports to the VP of Infrastructure and Operations as a central point of communication for technology infrastructure and operations. The Director requires an excellent understanding of overall technical infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, data networks and voice systems.

The Director of Engineering and Operations directs departmental staff and workflow, participates in quality improvement initiatives, participates in the budget process and operates within budget, maintains operational policies, and supports the educational initiatives of the department.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Stays up to date on new technologies and technical management practices, and provides direction on what emerging IT operations technologies and methods should be introduced.

Oversee the process to ensure that technical requirements necessary to keep the enterprise technology optimally functioning are understood, clearly communicated, and executed on time.

Direct the enterprise systems, storage, virtualization, data networks and voice technology functions.

Works with the leadership team to forecast future skill needs to acquire and develop an infrastructure and operations workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies.

Manages toward a balance between growing the agility required to achieve objectives and ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable and efficient.

Builds and maintains relationships with other IT leaders to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensures cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs, and is able to respond with agility to changing business priorities. Oversee the hardware deployment that is needed to support the Epic EHR system (servers, storage and virtualization).

Direct large technical integration issues, including setting up timelines, following up on progress that teams have made to ensure solutions are established in a timely manner and within budget, and coordinating appropriate resources to manage issues.

Directs departmental staff and workflow. Addresses performance issues, counsels colleagues. Makes recommendations and decisions re promotions, demotions, raises, performance appraisals, hiring, transferring and firing. Collaborates with Human Resources as appropriate. Participates in workforce management, hiring, interviewing and selection processes. Monitors performance of staff. Mentors and empowers staff. Manages daily workflow.

Participates in the budget process and operates within budget, promoting departmental efficiency.

Develops, updates, implements, and enforces departmental policies.

Coordinate an environment strategy, including data migration methods and schedules.

Develop and publish the data migration timelines with the project manager.

Establish a management process for nightly batch processes.

Work with application teams and the project director to develop technical downtime and recovery processes and facilitate technical setup of downtime reporting.

Support application coordinators to manage imports and other technical tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor?s degree in Computer Information Systems, Business, or Computer Science or a related field

Licensure, Certification & Registration:
None

Experience: At least ten (10) years of Information Systems support and systems supervisory experience

At least five (5) year? experience implementing, designing, and / or managing networks, systems technologies, products and devices

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 1. Ability to gather a variety of departmental and organizational goals, strategies and plans and compile them into an integrated plan with appropriate tasks with timelines and resource assignments
2. Demonstrated organization, verbal, written and inter-personal skills
3. Excellent leadership, management, analytical, problem solving and technical skills
4. Strong knowledge of clinic and hospital clinical practices
5. Familiarity with clinical systems such as Epic Systems
6. Ability to manage multiple projects with aggressive timelines
7. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
8. Demonstrated skills in strategic and critical thinking, negotiation and relationship building
9. Exhibit the highest values of excellence, integrity and innovation?
10. Experience with change management
11. Problem solver, consensus builder, results oriented with ability to quickly take action to achieve goals
12. Energetic, self-confident, persuasive
13. Solid technical grounding, project management and implementation experience
14. Experience working with a variety of vendors and implementing and supporting multiple products
15. Proven leadership abilities and comprehensive knowledge of healthcare information systems
16. Capable of using Micro-Soft Windows Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio and Project
